- Gary King is an award-winning American independent filmmaker whose work is known for powerful performances with an emphasis on a strong, visual style. He has written, directed and produced several critically acclaimed feature films as well as award-winning short films.
Gary began his filmmaking career in 2004 with the short film FAVORS. In 2006 he released HUBRIS, a short film comedy, which garnered much critical praise (including winning Rogue Cinema’s Cinematic Excellence Award) and went on to numerous film festivals, including the Los Angeles International Short Films Festival and the Academy-Award qualifying Rhode Island International Film Festival.
In 2009, he made his feature film debut with the ensemble drama NEW YORK LATELY which has been hailed by The Independent Critic as “a remarkable achievement” and Row Three as “a beautiful film.” It was also listed on Associated Content’s “Best Independent Movies” List — right behind SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE. The film is currently in the 2009 film festival circuit.
Gary’s ability to skillfully apply his filmmaking craft across genres led him to direct the grisly horror film DISMAL from Fearmakers Studios. The film has received much praise from the hardcore horror fan base and critics alike. Comics Online hails it as “a new outlook on classic horror” while Horror-101 adds “King does prove that he can make a good, entertaining film.” DISMAL is scheduled for both On-Demand and DVD release in 2009.
He is currently in post-production on his third feature film WHAT’S UP LOVELY which already has film websites buzzing about its visual style and elegance. It will be released in 2010.
